Leah Braemel Gives it Away Today!
I’ve hit that age where my memory is not as infallible as I once used to claim it was—hey, I swear, I never forget anything. Ever. Now however? I’ve resorted to jotting down notes to myself. Originally it was on pads of paper my local real estate folks very kindly dropped in the mail box every now and then. But they sort of piled up and got jumbled beneath all the clutter on my desk. I needed something that couldn’t get lost on my desk top.
I needed things to be In. My. Face.
So I visited my local office supply store and discovered they carried more than just the standard yellow post-it. Oh, yes, I’ve got the standard yellow ones, but I also have blue ones, and green and orange and pink and bright, bright, canary yellow. Some have lines on them, some don’t. I even have a post-it note dispenser in the shape of a purse – those have a cool little swirly symbol on them. I haven’t dared use them, they’re so special. (My hubby bought that for me for Valentine’s Day—it goes with the tape dispenser shaped like a high heel.)
I currently have 5 various colors attached to my monitor with notes like “Write THIS Scene.” (meaning don’t worry about the last one or the one to come.) Another contains hero names I like, with two crossed out – Griffin and Matt. I used them in my upcoming release Texas Tangle (look for it this summer over at Carina Press.) “Chad has a boat” has been up there for about a year now. That’s in reference to the hero in the sequel to Personal Protection. Another talks about character relations in the paranormal romance I’m writing. Then there’s the reminders–“Pay the dentist” and “HQN/Carina mtg @ 12:45” …ooops I guess I can take that one down now.
Whee – I’m down to four!
Hmm, I really need to do something about that dental payment, don’t I?
On the hutch behind my monitor there are another 9 sticky notes—nope, make that 10. Some are more notes on Texas Tangle, a few are notes about video specifications for my last (and next) video trailer. And a couple are passwords to who knows what site.
That’s not including the ‘to-do’ list and calendar in my day-timer. But one note I haven’t needed to leave myself is today’s date. My first full length book is officially released in print today. Personal Protection was released as an ebook last May, but now I can hold it in my hands. And yes, I’ve stroked the cover more than once, I’m not ashamed to admit.
Personal Protection follows Sam Watson, who I first introduced in my erotic romance novella, Private Property, the first in the Hauberk Protection series:
Warning: This book contains a woman fulfilling her sexual fantasies—including two men who are happy to tie her up, and be tied up, while using graphic language and floggers.
Jodi Tyler has loved and lost too many times to believe in happily ever after. That’s what makes her no-strings affair with her boss so perfect—his power in bed matches his respect for her independence. Still, when he surprises her with a ménage for her birthday, her secret thrill wars with a nagging thought: Why would he so casually share her with another man?
Even though Mark Rodriguez holds Jodi at arm’s length from his heart, her self-confidence is a turn-on he can’t resist. Inviting old college buddy and future business partner Sam into their bed for one night was supposed to set free her wildest fantasy. Instead he finds the tables turned, forced to watch while Sam brings her to the height of ecstasy.
Now, Mark’s not so sure he wants to share his treasure…
Sam gets his own story in Personal Protection when as head of the Hauberk Protection Agency he’s annoyed to discover it’s necessary to hire his own bodyguards.
Sam Watson excels at keeping other people safe. Now a stalker is targeting him, but so what? A few doctored photos and a couple threatening phone calls are no big deal. He can watch his own back. Then again, the view from behind the sexy spitfire assigned to protect him isn’t so bad…
Rosalinda Ramos has managed to keep her attraction to Hauberk Security’s owner tightly under wraps. It’s just as well he doesn’t know. One slip—in the bedroom or on the job—will cost her heart and her career, so she’s got only one thing on her mind. Protect Sam, whether he wants it or not.
The stakes—and the heat—rise exponentially when she discovers Sam belongs to an exclusive sex club—one she must investigate for potential suspects. Suddenly she finds herself immersed in a world that pushes her boundaries.
Sam delights in leading Rosie deep into his sexual shadows—until they go one game too far. Making him wonder if he can allow the woman he loves to take a bullet for him.

I’m giving away a PDF copy of Private Property to a commenter today, but you have to tell me what would be written on a sticky-note on your desk.

I loved the purse, the shoe and Private Property
Congratulations on the hardcopy! Now even paperback snobs can enjoy some fine writing.
Congrats on the print release!!
I have so many sticky notes and even small pieces of paper lying around with reminders..there’s so many I just push them out of the way and then whats the use of the reminders
My sticky notes have appt dates and times..one is a reminder to do a St.Pats day skin for a message board..another is to mail packages..oops forgot to do that one today. And about 10-15 more
My one and only sticky note this week is a reminder not to forget to buy the goodies for my nephew’s birthday party this weekend.
Loved the blurbs… Already got them on my TBR/TBB book pile.
Thanks!

Congrats on the print release! It must be great to hold it in your hands
And I love the post-it note and tape dispenser. They’re fabulous.
Oh, my! That tape dispenser is full of awesome! There actually is a sticky note on my desk. It says : Hair Technique Thurs. 9AM . ;0)
Personal Protection sounds great, I love a strong heroine. Congrats on the print release! I have many sticky notes but the first one I see is reminding me I don’t need to pick my oldest up from school until 4:30 today. Woo hoo, that means an extra hour of writing time!
Too funny! I love the shoe. My desk is covered with my notes. Once a week I search and destroy as many as possible, but I’m rarely note free!
LOL, Leah! I need sticky notes for just about everything! This week I need to remember to pick up a birthday present for my daughter’s friend, to mail a couple articles to a friend, to call to confirm an assembly for my kids’ school and to submit the paperwork for said assembly, to write a check for the PTA… I also could probably use a reminder to pick up and drop off the kids at the appropriate times… I’ve nearly forgotten before!
Huge congrats on the hard copies–how very cool!!
Hey everyone!
I’m glad to see I’m not the only one addicted to sticky notes.
Fedora-sounds like you have as many as I do this week.
Stephanie-a search and destroy mission for post-is, I love it!
Sophie-that extra hour of writing time is so precious, isn’t it?
Cora–I’ve been following your blog talking about all you have to do. I’m like you, I tend to leave things like getting my hair done to the last minute too.
Veronica-I had those type of notes on my desk, in fact I still do. My eldest’s birthday was last Thursday, my youngest’s is tomorrow.
Chandra–it’s a fantastic and rather surreal feeling to hold a book and know it’s one you’ve written yourself. (I just wish I could actually find it in a bookstore up here in Canada. Our major chain, Chapters, isn’t stocking it for some strange reason. The Powers That Be at Samhain are working on it, but it might be a few months yet *sob*)
Elaine–St. Pat’s day, shoot that’s another sticky I have to do!
Lisa–LOL, paperback snobs! love it!
I love them there so Cute. Now you make me want something like them.Your book Looks Great To.
