donutsI had surgery on Monday.  It was laproscopic but abdominal and the doc says no lifting for several weeks.  This has had me wondering about my diet and exercise program.

I don’t want to lose the ground I’ve gained and I want to be able to continue to make progress toward my fitness goals.  Specifically, I want to unwrap my abs!  I’ve been doing some thinking about this and determined that I need to consider this time a gift.  With no exercise to fit in, I have more time to focus on dialing in my diet.  Afetr all, diet is the biggest factor in cutting bodyfat.  There are a few options I have available for cutting fat without cutting lean muscle mass:

Master Cleanse

The Master Cleanse is a pretty extreme sort of fasting but, when done properly, can yield a loss of 1-2lbs per day for a sustained period of time up to 30 days.  Basically, you only drink water, lemon juice, and cayenne pepper and eat nothing.  I’ve used this fast successfully in the past to reset my caffeine addiction and get my body quickly into ketosis (burning fat instead of carbs for energy).  The first 3 days are horrible with hunger, cravings and just plain crankiness but day 4 and on are awesome.

Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent fasting is something I’ve done only accidentally.  You know, when you forget to eat one day and then eat extra calories the next?  Yeah, there’s too much room for error between me and intermittent fasting.

Carbohydrate Rotation/Restriction

This is usually the easiest one for me to live with, especially when I’ve been self-medicating with starch.  It allows me that early morning starch (like a muffin or bagel) that kicks my serotonin production up and then I find it much easier through the rest of the day to restrict my carbs and rely on protein and protein packed meal replacements.

Due to the need for me to take care of my sick son, I’ve unexpectedly had to stay at the ex’s house for three days completely unprepared.  When you combine my post-surgery pain levels, lack of sleep/pain medication for staying up with the little one, and stress of being in the same house with my ex, it makes for a carb loading extravaganza!

Hopefully I can clean up my act when I get home and get some rest this weekend.
