I know I’ve been slacking lately what with the broken foot and abdominal surgery.  Not only have I been hobbled with this ridiculous boot but my core has been tied up with sutures.  It’s put a serious damper on my workouts.  The good news is I’ve managed to hold my weight and bodyfat fairly steady so, although I haven’t made forward progress, I haven’t been backsliding either.

I did a Tabata round yesterday (pushups & planks) and got exactly halfway through it before the deep sutures started pulling.  I don’t want to screw up my abs so I stopped there.  I’ll keep on and ease into it but I’m not going to be foolish about causing long-term damage for short term gain.

I have 173 days until the Lackland Classic on November 10th.  (The official title is the NPC Lackland Classic Bodybuilding, Physique, Fitness, Figure & Bikini Championships.  It’s a mouthful so we’ll just say “Lackland Classic”.)  My event will be Figure and I’ll compete in the Masters category.  I may be older than ideal for figure competition but I’m not done yet!

173 days works out to 24 weeks.  My last 12 weeks will be spent dieting down for muscle definition.  What I need to do in these first 12 weeks is make sure I have the muscle to diet down to!  That means keeping my nutrition on course, increasing my protein and vegetable intake while weaning myself off starch and finding a way to train without doing any damage to myself.

Let’s see how that works out for me…
