Readers do love trailers, especially romance readers. The problem is the authors who create trailers fail to promote them and simply believe 'if I build it, the readers will come'. You can't just post a trailer on Youtube and expect the world to come clamoring for your latest release! Readers don't have time to troll YouTube. They're too busy trolling the Kindle & Nook stores. Create the trailer/teaser and then put it on the front page of your website (not buried three clicks deep), put it on your Goodreads Author Page, put it on your Amazon Author Page and send the link out over Twitter and Facebook.

Thanks for asking the question, Brian. And, by the way, you do have very nice shoulders ;-)

"Readers love book teasers and trailers!"

Is there any verification of this? Most of the ones I see don't get any views. I'm not attacking the concept, I just rarely see one that makes me want to read a book. It's like advertising a movie with a pamphlet of text.

I agree with you that authors should get themselves in front of the camera and do something - possibly even not talking about their book for once. lol

I liked your post. I'm always told, 'Promote! Promote! Promote!' but nobody ever says how except do Facebook & Twitter. I'll post my reviews & stuff on my page but never on others because, well, it feels weird. I wouldn't want that from someone else so why would I do that to them. But I suck at selling & promoting. I prefer writing and wish I could hire someone else to do the promoting for me. Any suggestions on what would be a good route to travel? Or recommend a good promoter? Thx.

I totally agree with you. Marketing is about building a relationship with potential readers, just as writing a book is about a relationship with your actual reader. I delete people who promote on my Facebook wall without my permission. It's harsh, but jeez....:-))

Great advice. I get people all the time who join my facebook to promote sthemselves. that is first as long as they ask first. However, writing a post to my wall status that just has their blurb and no other information feels a little slimy. I do not mind the authors who use a pic of their book for a facebook profile ohote. Then if someone thinks it looks interesting they have th e choice of going agter more information. thanks for touchibng on tyhis touchy subject!
