Review of Wonder Workshop’s Dash Robot from Best Buy
I, the reviewer have been compensated in the form of a Best Buy Gift Card and/or received this product/service at a reduced price or for free.
When Best Buy offered us a Dash from Wonder Workshop to review, my kids were as thrilled as I was. When the little blue guy finally arrived, we couldn’t wait for the unboxing!
What comes in the box:
- 1 Dash
- 1 Charging Cord
- 2 Building Brick Connectors
- Getting Started Guide
Ready to Roll!
One of the best things about meeting Dash was that he was a real robot, charged and ready to play out of the box. (No anxious waiting while he charges overnight!)
Within an hour, the boys had Dash’s apps downloaded from the Google Play Store and were programming Dash to do so many fun things!
Programming Became Fun
Teddy programmed him to respond to his voice and seemingly “look” at Teddy with his great big bright eye.
Sparky had Dash speeding around the living room, navigating furniture – although there were a few bumps, Dash is a tough little robot and took them in stride.
Teddy discovered he could turn Dash into a dancing disco ball of fun and even make the little robot sing.
When Sparky built a LEGO attachment for Dash, he drove his little buddy ‘bot around the house delivering treats to the cats and dog! The building brick connectors were sheer genius in the design of Dash and probably my favorite feature because while my logical son is coding behaviors for Dash, my creative one can be building a Tyranasaurus head for it.
So Easy for Parents & Kids
The beauty of this experience was as soon as Dash came out of the box, my sons were engaged and exploring every one of his features. In less than an hour, they were using one of Dash’s apps to start coding behaviors. I’ve been trying to get my kids engaged in coding for years but this little robot did it in his first hour with them.
We didn’t have to read books or go to a Spring Break Camp to learn how to use Dash. The apps were easy to use, encouraged curiosity and experimentation and made coding instantly rewarding and fun.
As a homeschooler, I want to have first-hand experience and influence how my child will learn, build, and grow. Dash is the robot I’ve always dreamed of having – he’s as easy to operate as a toy but amazingly high tech. He can take the knocks that kids can give and keep on rolling, all the while teaching them without them ever realizing it. With these new Kids Tech products and learning apps, keeping my kids engaged couldn’t be easier. Dash makes STEM hands-on and fun our whole family can enjoy! We’re using Wonder, Blockly, and other apps to create new behaviors for Dash every day — doing more with robotics than we ever thought possible.
Grows With Them
This amazing little robot and his associated apps make him extremely versatile and allow my children to be as creative as they want in programming behaviors and building attachments. The beauty of it is that it can grow with the boys. There are other attachments and even a little one-eyed Dot. The possibilities for expansion and creativity are endless and will last years. This is screen time I really don’t mind because it has proven fun and educational for our whole family – even the cats and dog.
I highly recommend this robot for kids who aren’t yet motivated to program or code. The recommended minimum age is 8 – and my eight-year-old adores it – but my delight with this little robot should prove that fun and learning simply don’t have an age limit. Get one for your child or just for yourself – its a kick!
